Guangzhou offers free ridesduring Games: Part of the public transportation service will be free to people in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, during the Asian Games and the Asian Para Games, Guangzhou Daily reported on Monday.

　　亚运会期间广州乘车免费：据《广州日报》本周一报道，在亚运会以及亚残运会期间，广东省广州市的部分公共交通将免费供人们使用。

　　文中的free ride就是指“免费乘车”。除了传统的公交、地铁等交通方式外，此次免费开放的还有waterbus（水上巴士、轮渡），但airport express（机场快线）、Zhujiang River tour routes（珠江游）、bus routes connecting downtown and suburban areas（市区与郊区之间的公路客运班线）等线路不实行免费措施。

　　平时我们一说free ride，首先想到的是“搭便车”，还可以用hitchhike或者give someone a lift/ride来表示。在国外，如果你想在路上享受free ride，那就要在路边等车时冲着司机thumb up（竖起大拇指），因此“搭便车”也可叫thumbing up a ride，“搭便车的旅行者”则称为hitchhiker。
