N95型口罩是NIOSH（美国国家职业安全卫生研究所，National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health）认证的9种颗粒物防护口罩中的一种。N95不是特定的产品名称，只要符合N95标准，并且通过NIOSH审查的产品就可以称为“N95型口罩”
这里的“N”表示不耐油（not resistant to oil）。
N95：表示在NIOSH标准规定的检测条件下，口罩滤料对非油性颗粒物（如粉尘、酸雾、漆雾、微生物等）的过滤效率达到95%。
N95口罩除了可以说“N95 mask”，还可以说“N95 respirator”。“respirator”有防毒面具和口罩的意思。
但是，在口罩十分紧缺的情况下，大多数普通人买到的口罩都是KN95口罩。KN95是中国国家标准GB2626-2006对防颗粒物口罩的分类，指对于0.075微米以上的非油性颗粒物过滤效率大于95%的口罩。
这里的“KN”表示适用过滤非油性颗粒物。
KN95：在GB2626-2006测试条件下，适用于过滤非油性颗粒物（一般用氯化钠测试），且过滤效率大于等于95.0%的呼吸防护用品。
所以，N95和KN95口罩的防护能力其实是差不多的，普通民众不必过分求购N95口罩。平时我们购买KN95口罩，大多数是用于防雾霾，这种防雾霾的防护口罩英语也可以说：particulate respirator。
比起N95和KN95这种价格偏高的口罩，价格更便宜（商人没有黑心的情况下），性价比更高的医用外科口罩更适合大众佩戴。

Mould the metallic strip over nose bridge. Extend the mask to fully cover mouth, nose and chin.

Replace the mask immediately if it is damaged or soiled; and change it at least daily.

While taking off the mask, avoid touching the outside of mask as it may be covered with germs.
