英语新闻词汇：“Play it by ear”是什么意思？

by ear

 

表示在演奏时可以不看乐谱，凭记忆就能完成，也可以引申为“凭感觉”

 

例：

Some people can play the piano by ear.

有些人能不看乐谱弹钢琴。

 

也可以写作play it by ear，即“随机应变，见机行事”。

 

例：

Benson played it by ear.

本森随机应变。

 

chew one's ear off

 

chew one's ear off可不是把某人的耳朵咬掉，那也太残忍了，其实它是美国俚语，表示“教训、“训斥”。需要注意的是要与talk one's ear off（对某人唠叨不休）区分开。

 

例：

The girl chewed her boyfriend's ear off.

姑娘把男友教训了一顿。

 

give one's ears

 

give one's ears是个习语，原指古代那些坚持己见而被割耳的人，现在是指“不惜任何代价（得到或做）”。give one's eyes和give one's eye/teeth与之同义。

 

例：

He would give his ears to her.

为了她，他愿不惜任何代价。

 

not dry behind the ears

 

胎生动物 ，如马、牛、老虎和狮子之类的幼崽出生后，浑身都是湿的，身上渐渐干了之后，耳朵背后还是湿的，还没有真正长大呢。所以当你发现某人太年轻, 缺乏经验，不适合做某事的时候, 就可以用not dry behind the ear，也可以说成wet behind the ear，意思是“缺乏经验”、“乳臭未干”。

 

例：

He made a mistake again. It s because he is not dry behind the ears.

他又错了。这是因为他缺乏经验。
