(1)for short 意为“缩写、简称、简言之”，多作状语。 
The teacher told us to write the text for short.老师让我们缩写课文。 

(2)short for “是……的缩写”，一般作表语。如： 
“You’d” is short for “You would” or “You had”. 
“You’d”是“You would”或“You had”的缩写形式。
