析：afraid 是表语形容词, 一般不能放在名词前作定语。但是若 afraid 本身有修饰语, 则也可以放在名词前作定语：a very much afraid boy (十分胆怯的男孩)；另外有时构成短语可放在被修饰的名词后作后置定语：a boy afraid of dogs (怕狗 的男孩)
◆你自己能修吗? ---- 恐怕不行。
误：Can you repair it yourself? ---- I’m not afraid.
正：Can you repair it yourself? ---- I’m afraid not.
