　　1. On the fence 犹豫不决，两面观望，中立的

　　That congressman is still on the fence to vote for or against the new tax bill.

　　那个议员现在还对新的税收议案犹豫不决，不知该投赞成票还是反对票。

　　释义：

　　fence：篱笆

　　on the fence：某人骑在篱笆上，左右不足，不知如何行动才对自己有好处。这就是所谓的“骑墙派”。
 

　　2. On the high ropes 高傲，洋洋得意

　　He's been on the high ropes since he was elected president of the Student Boday.

　　他自从当选为学生会主席以后就高傲得不得了。

　　释义：

　　ropes：马戏团演员走的钢索

　　on the high ropes：演员在高高的绳索上往下看观众，难免有“高人一等”的感觉。
