美国街头常用英语俚语（53）：Dangle a carrot

　　1. Dangle a carrot 开空头支票，空口许诺

　　My boss promised me a raise but I know he is just dangling a carrot in front of me.

　　老板许诺要给我加薪，可我知道他是在开空头支票。

　　释义：

　　dangle: 悬挂，摇晃

　　dangle a carrot 是马夫的绝招。胡萝卜是马的最爱，马夫们在马头前挂一个胡萝卜，马想吃却总是够不着，于是拉着马车拼命往前跑。
 

　　2. Dead meat 完了，死定了

　　You are dead meat unless you turn in the homework on time.

　　你要是不准时交作业，你就死定了！
